Abstract: This blog post provides an overview of important free SAP tools that are new since S/4HANA 1809 and shows how they can be used sensibly.

S/4HANA 1909 has just been released, and the valuable and free SAP tools available since version 1809 have been massively expanded. These can be used in a highly targeted manner for the introduction of SAP Best Practice processes. These are in particular:

  • The SAP S/4HANA Best Practice Explorer: This includes
    – the S/4HANA best practice processes are displayed in a BPMN2 notation, which can also be downloaded and imported into a corresponding BPM tool (e.g. Signavio)
    – the S/4HANA processes are also available as XLSX files; test scripts can easily be generated from these files
    – Configuration instructions available for all S/4HANA best practice processes
    – test scripts available for all S/4HANA best practice processes
    – Descriptions of the organizational units and master data required to set up the best practice processes are available.

Tip: Log in with your SAP S (or OSS) user to see all functions of the S/4HANA Best Practice Explorer! Commit your SAP S/4HANA consultants to have worked through the relevant parts of the S/4HANA Best Practice Explorer for their areas of competence in preparation for your S/4HANA project and have this confirmed in writing!

  • The S/4HANA 2020 Simplification List: This describes the solutions in S/4HANA that are newly available for the functions and processes that were available in SAP R/3 and are not available or are available in modified form in S/4HANA. The 2020 Simplification List currently comprises just over 1100 pages.
Tip: Make sure that your SAP S/4HANA consultants have read the relevant parts of the Simplification List for your S/4HANA project and have it confirmed in writing!
  • The S/4HANA Fiori Apps Library: Characteristic feature of the S/4HANA system are the Fiori Apps. All available Fiori Apps are described in the Fiori Apps Library. In addition to the operation of the applications by means of apps, the so-called Analytical Apps are also described, with which you receive completely preconfigured process controls. THIS IS NEW and must be considered as an integrated part of every new S/4HANA solution in order to guarantee a high quality of the solution.

Tip: Make sure that your SAP S/4HANA consultants have read the relevant parts of the Fiori App Library for your S/4HANA project and have it confirmed in writing!

SAP’s What’s New Viewer should also be part of your consultants’ regular toolkit!

SAP has summarized the most important new features of S/4HANA Rel. 1909 in a very good presentation: 20191029_S4HANA_1909_DELIVERY_SCOPE.PDF. You can read the document here.
